Amin Taha
Founder of Groupwork
Amin Taha (b. 1974, East Berlin) is a British architect and founder of Groupwork, a London-based practice known for its rigorous exploration of structure, materiality, and construction. Educated at the University of Edinburgh, Taha worked with firms such as Wilkinson Eyre and Zaha Hadid Architects before establishing his own practice in 2003, which later evolved into an Employee Ownership Trust. His work emphasizes exposed materials—stone, timber, concrete, steel—to articulate space and form with clarity and honesty. Groupwork has received multiple awards and had four projects considered for the RIBA Stirling Prize, including 15 Clerkenwell Close (2017), known for its innovative use of load-bearing stone. The project sparked controversy after a demolition order was overturned in a public inquiry, drawing global attention to Taha’s architectural approach. The building became the centerpiece of the New Stone Age exhibition at the Building Centre in 2020.
